PGN Saka, as an affiliate of PGN Subholding Gas Pertamina through Saka Indonesia Pangkah Limited, held a ceremonial planting of 60,000 mangrove seedlings as part of the Community Development Program (PPM) on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at the Mangrove Preservation Area in Ujungpangkah, Gresik, East Java. The program aims to support the preservation of coastal ecosystems while reinforcing PGN Saka’s commitment to maintaining environmental balance.
The event was attended by various parties, including PGN Saka’s representative, Subali as External Relations Supervisor, SKK Migas Jabanusa representative, Cindy Cinthya Koeshardini, and representatives from related agencies such as the Dinas Lingkungan Hidup (DLH), BBKSDA, and the Forestry Department. Also, Sat Polair and representatives from four local villages were also attended the event.
The community showed great enthusiasm for the event, with strong participation and attendance. he event proceeded smoothly with a series of activities, including:
- Symbolic planting of 60,000 Rhizophora Mucronata mangrove seedlings through the SIPL PPM Program.
- Symbolic planting of 2,000 Rhizophora Stylosa mangrove seedlings in collaboration with the East Java DLH.
- Inauguration of the Pangkahwetan Mangrove Nursery Area. Opening of the Mangrove Gazebo.
“Mangroves can be both a tourist destination and an economic hub for the community. The greening activities we are doing are part of PGN Saka’s commitment to the people and the environment,” said Subali.
Planting mangroves is not just about protecting the environment, but also about safeguarding migratory birds and the ecosystems within them. PGN Saka is initiating the revival of the Ujungpangkah Mangrove Preservation Area. The community is being encouraged to understand that mangroves not only serve as coastal protectors but also provide habitats for various species like fish and birds and are effective carbon emission absorbers.
“East Java has 35,000 hectares of potential land for reforestation. DLH has the AKSI TAJAM program, which is also collaborating with SKK Migas and PGN Saka. We appreciate PGN Saka for its commitment in planting mangroves,” said Aju, representing the East Java DLH.
Through this planting activity, PGN Saka hopes to continue contributing to environmental preservation and support coastal communities through sustainable programs that offer long-term benefits.
