SAKA, an affiliate of PGN Subholding Gas Pertamina, through Saka Indonesia Pangkah Limited, conducted a ceremonial planting of 60,000 mangrove seedlings under its Community Development Program (PPM) on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at the Ujungpangkah Mangrove Preservation Area in Gresik, East Java. The program aims to support the preservation of coastal ecosystems while reinforcing SAKA commitment to maintaining environmental balance.
The event was attended by various stakeholders, including SAKA representative Subali, External Relations Supervisor; SKK Migas Jabanusa representative Cindy Cinthya Koeshardini; as well as representatives from several relevant institutions, including the Environmental Agency (DLH), BBKSDA, and the Forestry Agency. Representatives from the Water and Air Police and four villages were also present.
Community enthusiasm for the activity was reflected in the strong attendance and participation throughout the event. The program proceeded smoothly with several key activities, including:
- Symbolic planting of 60,000 Rhizophora mucronata mangrove seedlings through SIPL’s PPM Program.
- Symbolic planting of 2,000 Rhizophora stylosa mangrove seedlings in collaboration with the East Java Environmental Agency.
- Inauguration of the Pangkahwetan Mangrove Nursery Area.
- Inauguration of the Mangrove Gazebo.
“Mangroves can become tourist destinations as well as centers of economic activity for local communities. The greening initiatives we carry out are part of SAKA commitment to the community and the environment,” said Subali.
Mangrove planting is not only about environmental conservation, but also about protecting migratory birds and preserving the ecosystems within mangrove areas. SAKA has taken the initiative to revitalize the Ujungpangkah Mangrove Preservation Area. Local communities are also encouraged to understand that mangroves not only serve as coastal buffers, but also provide habitats for various species, including fish and birds, while functioning as effective carbon sinks.
“East Java has 35,000 hectares of land with greening potential. The Environmental Agency has the AKSI TAJAM movement, which is also implemented in collaboration with SKK Migas and SAKA. We appreciate SAKA for its strong commitment to mangrove planting,” said Aju, representing the East Java Environmental Agency.
Through this mangrove planting initiative, SAKA hopes to continue contributing to environmental preservation while supporting coastal communities through sustainable programs that deliver long-term benefits.
